Gather as much information about the animal's biome, the climate, and reasons why the animal is able to survive in the area. You are going to research an animal that lives in a specific biome. There are 6 biomes that we are going to look at desert, arctic/tundra, steppe/grasslands, rain forest/tropical, taiga, and forest. A distinct ecological community of plants and animals living together in a particular climate is called a "biome." Plants and animals in a particular ecological community must be adapted to the same climate so that they can all live in the same location. Plants and animals live together in an interdependent group called an ecological community. Humans can build fire in response to cold, turtles bury their eggs in response to predators, and chimpanzees have learned to use tools to gather food. Living things can meet some of their needs in an environment by responding to information received from the environments. Adaptations such as the shape of a beak or feet, placement of eyes on head, length of neck, shape of teeth, color enable organisms to survive. Inherited characteristics of living things may change over time as adaptations to changes in the environment. In winter, some trees shed leaves, some animals hibernate, and other animals migrate. Changes in environment have caused some plants and animals to migrate to new locations permanently.

Many living things can survive harsh environments because of seasonal behaviors. All living things have basic needs for survival such as water, food, and shelter. The varied climates on earth affect environments of living things differently. There is a wide diversity of living things (plants and animals) on earth.
